Star-P Supports Windows HPC Server 2008 |

Waltham, MA (OBBeC) - Interactive Supercomputing (ISC) has announced that its Star-P software will support Microsoft's Windows HPC Server 2008. According to the announcement, these technologies can make high performance computing ubiquitous, affordable and much easier to use for a wider range of technical computing users. Star-P is an application development platform that allows scientists, engineers and analysts to code algorithms and models on their Windows desktops using familiar mathematical software packages such as The MathWorks' MATLAB or Python, and run them instantly and interactively on parallel clusters and servers running Windows HPC Server 2008. It eliminates the need to re-program in complex languages like C or FORTRAN, or use MPI (message passing interface) to run in parallel, which squelches user productivity and time-to-discovery. "Products like Star-P are critical to bringing high performance computing to the mainstream," said Vince Mendillo, director of HPC marketing at Microsoft Corp. "Star-P's support of Windows HPC Server 2008 helps ensure that our customers will be able to tap the power of parallel processing from their desktops with a familiar Windows platform and easy-to-use tools." Windows HPC Server 2008 can scale to thousands of processing cores and provides a comprehensive set of deployment, administration, and monitoring tools that are easy to deploy, manage, and integrate into existing infrastructures. "Most of our customers use Windows on their desktops, for many server based functions, and are already skilled in management and administration of Windows operating systems," said David Rich, ISC vice president of marketing.
